New A-League franchise to be made official in days

A second Melbourne A-League team is set to be announced in the next coming days. Businessman Peter Sidwell heads the bid which is operating under the name Melbourne Heart.

The team will reportedly be made official within days and will start in the competition in the 2010/11 season, playing at the Melbourne Rectangular Stadium (due to be completed next year) alongside Melbourne Victory.

"We don't want to cannibalise an existing club in Melbourne Victory, which has done a super job," Sidwell said.

"We are under no illusion about the enormity of the job ahead of us.

"The name of the team will be up for grabs and we need to lure a whole new band of soccer lovers."
