Manchester United sent scouts to watch a pair of Sporting Lisbon stars on the weekend according to reports.

The Sun suggests, via reports from Portugal, that United cast a close eye over William Carvalho and Joao Mario as Sporting defeated Moreirense 1-0 on Saturday.

24-year-old central midfielder Carvalho has already been watched a number of times by the Red Devils, as well as Arsenal, while 23-year-old winger Mario has now emerged as a target for the Old Trafford outfit.

With Jose Mourinho still favoured to replace Louis van Gaal at Old Trafford come season's end, the rumours regarding potential summer transfers continue and it is believed that United are keen on the Portuguese pair as they look to reinvigorate their squad following a disappointing campaign.
