A host of Australians have made it through to the final 32 of UEFA's Europa League. After the final group stage matches on Thursday night, the results were in favour of teams containing Australian players with only two missing out.
After a thrilling 3-2 win over FC Basel, Fulham with goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer finished second in Group E, two points behind AS Roma and two ahead of Scott Chipperfield's Basel to progress to the next stage.
Turkish outfit Galatasaray containing star Harry Kewell topped Group F, a point clear of Greek club Panathinaikos to book their place in the final 32 whilst David Carney and Nikita Rukavtysya experienced success with Dutch club FC Twente Enschede, who despite finishing seven points in arrears of Group H leaders Fenerbahce, did enough to end up second, a win clear of Sheriff Tiraspol.
Everton with Tim Cahill and Lucas Neill in tow, progressed after finishing second in Group I despite losing their final group match to BATE Borisov but unfortunately for Scott McDonald, Scottish giants Celtic missed in Group C, finishing third behind Hapoel Tel-Aviv and Hamburg.
The draw for the next round takes place in Switzerland on Friday.
