Former Newcastle United wing-back Jetro Willems is launching a playing comeback with FC Groningen.
Voetbal International says Willems completed his first medical tests yesterday.
The Dutchman will now seek to prove his fitness in a trial session.
Willems has been without a club since the summer. However, Groningen is under pressure. The transfer window in the Netherlands is closed and regular left-back Mads Bech Sörensen recently broke his arm.
For the 24-year-old Dane, Willems could step into the breach at least until the end of the season.
