Former Bayern Munich captain Stefan Effenberg has hit out at his old club after their €80m deal for Atletico Madrid defender Lucas Hernandez.
Effenberg criticised the amount of money spent on the Frenchman, considering the figure to be excessive.
"There is only one winner from [Lucas] Hernandez's transfer if we only look at the fee and that's Atletico Madrid," he told T-Online.
"The fee now seems to be normal, but I get stomach-ache.
"That is one of the reasons why fans often have difficulties understand what is happening.
"If things go on like this, we will pay five million euros for a bus driver within five years.
"I would rather spend 80 million euros on midfielders or strikers, which are creative players."
