Crystal Palace to take on Columbus, Philly and Richmond Kickers in friendlies

USL PRO club Richmond Kickers will play English Premier League side Crystal Palace in a summer friendly.

The Eagles will descend upon Richmond's City Stadium in Virginia on July 28 for an exhibition match which will end a three-game US tour for the south Londoners who also take on Columbus Crew in Ohio on July 23 and Philadelphia Union two days later.

Kickers head coach Leigh Cowlishaw was absolutely delighted that Palace had chosen to tee up a clash with his club who currently sit third on the USL PRO table.

"This is huge, simply huge," said Cowlishaw.

"Not only for the Kickers but for the entire soccer community.

"We're trying to make a major statement. We want to show [local fans] that we intend to bring not only wonderful soccer but also top-class entertainment to Richmond."

Additionally, the Palace will also meet the Crew which has thrilled head coach Gregg Berhalter who spent time at Selhurst Park as a player in the early 2000s.

"Crystal Palace holds a special place in my heart, having played there and being a part of that club," Berhalter told the club's official website.

"I have some fantastic memories from playing at Selhurst Park, and we're looking forward to this match.

"Crystal Palace had a great year in the Premiership this past season. They proved themselves to be a good club in the top league in the world. For us, it's going to be a great competition, and even more special for me because it's a former club of mine."
