Chelsea and Mendy contract talks remain at deadlock

Edouard Mendy's new contract talks with Chelsea continue to stall.

The 31-year-old has held talks with club chiefs over a new deal at Stamford Bridge but they've made little progress in their discussions, says The Times.

The club are nowhere near reaching an agreement for his contract extension and are prioritising other players contract renewals over Mendy's.

Chelsea owner Todd Boehly, since his arrival in the summer, wants to prevent players from going below two years remaining on their contracts and so has opened discussions with the Senegal international.

Mendy has hardly featured for Potter, with a shoulder problem and then the finger injury limiting him to just five appearances under the former Brighton boss.

In his absence Kepa Arrizabalaga has taken over as first choice and enjoyed a regular run of starts since September.

Chelsea have also had initial discussions over the future of third choice Marcus Bettinelli whose contract expires at the end of this season.

They also bolstered their goalkeeping department with the signing of highly-rated US youngster Gabriel Slonina who joined up with Chelsea full-time in January and has featured three times for their under-21s.
