Carlisle United academy manager Eric Kinder has laughed off Jamie Carragher's assessment of Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite.

The former Carlisle prospect has won praise from the Liverpool legend, though Kinder says the Scouser is wrong claiming he's a left-footer.

Kinder admitted he has followed the progress of Branthwaite closely and laughed when Jamie Carragher claimed the centre-back was left-footed during Sky Sports punditry.

Kinder told the Liverpool Echo: "He's a right-footer!

"He played right-back and right centre-back for us. He's naturally right-footed but both feet are exactly the same.

"It made me laugh when Jamie Carragher said young left-footed centre-backs are hard to find. I laughed. Jarrad is not left-footed!

"He's right-footed, but both feet are exactly the same.

"When people would ask me if Jarrad Branthwaite had a chance, I would say: 'He's six-foot four, he can head the ball and he kicks with both feet. What can go wrong?"
