Birmingham City have rejected a bumper offer from Southampton for Jack Butland.
The Daily Mail says the keeper, who was part of Roy Hodgson's England squad at the Euro 2012, has yet to play a game for the Championship club.
But the Saints have been tracking Butland for the past two years and have followed up an initial opening offer of £3.5m with a far more substantial bid.
Nigel Adkins is hoping that a swift move for Butland, 19, may be sufficient for the Barclays Premier League new boys to steal a march on several rivals who have also been watching the teenager.
