Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane hailed their performance for victory over Getafe.

Zidane was full of praise for his Real Madrid players as they ran out 3-0 winners over Getafe on Saturday afternoon.

After three consecutive draws to end 2019, they got back to winning ways at one of the more difficult grounds in LaLiga Santander.

"It's a difficult place to go and get a result and we did it," Zidane told the press.

"It was an important and hard-fought victory.

"We achieved a good result.

"We knew that we had to come and play against a difficult team, but we did it.

"We started the year well after everyone always telling us that we start badly.

"It's important for us to pick up points because it's a very difficult league title race.

"The players were plugged in from the first minute with great intensity."

Luka Modric scored Real Madrid's third in stoppage time after running up the pitch with Fede Valverde.

"Modric is such an important player for this team and he's always going to be," Zidane said.

"Luka Modric is Luka Modric.

"I'm happy for his goal and for that sprint in the 90th minute with Valverde for the goal.

"That means he's very good physically."
