However, a late season injury to Gavin Bazunu meant he was deputized for the final weeks of the campaign and the playoffs.

Given he is out of contract, Liverpool are interested in McCarthy as their no.2 for next season.
His manager Russell Martin stated after Southampton's playoff final win: "He's (McCarthy) been immense since he came in so we'll try and keep Al as well and we'll keep our fingers crossed.
"It's my job now to try and squeeze more money out of Phil (Parsons, CEO) and the board and everyone and see where it takes us."
