As he is on gardening leave with the Magpies, The I has revealed that Ashworth met with the Wolves sporting director Matt Hobbs without his club’s permission.
There is a sense that Ashworth may have been talking about Newcastle players behind their back.
He may even have been discussing an issue pertaining to Manchester United, where he wants to go and work.
Ashworth has been in email contact with United CEO Omar Berrada, who was also on gardening leave at the time from Manchester City.
