"It has been a tough season. I have probably never been as injured as I have been in my career. It's been tough that way. I really fought to get back to the last games but I had a bit of a setback," the 29-year-old told Fotbollskanalen .

The highlight of United's season was the victory in the FA Cup final against Manchester City.

"It was an end... it was a tough season for me but also for the team. To end up winning the FA Cup, such a big and historic Cup, means a lot to the club and all the players and managers. It was a perfect end to a very tough season. It can probably give everyone energy."

At the same time, manager Erik ten Hag's position remains in doubt.

"It is quite normal (with speculation)," says Lindelof.  "I always say it: in a club like Manchester United there is always an incredible amount of reporting. We have had a tough season and then there is always speculation.

"Then we had to finish in a good way by winning the FA Cup and I've had a good time with him at the club."
