Golovin was consistently linked with Chelsea during the Roman Abramovich era.
But he insists he never chased such a move. Asked if former Russia coach Leonid Slutsky had urged him to join the Blues, he told Sport-Express: "No, not him.
"Leonid Viktorovich immediately said: 'the last word is yours, think for yourself'. I chose Monaco and I don’t regret it. Moreover, you see what is happening to Chelsea now. So, I did everything right.
Golovin was also asked about comparisons with Arsenal hero Andrey Arshavin.
He said: "It’s difficult for me to compare myself with other football players. People from the outside, I’m sure, know better. In my head, Arshavin still remains a legend of Russian football. I grew up watching his matches, his actions on the field.
"For me, he was the Russian Ronaldinho or the Russian Messi. His football was clearly different from others. But I’m not ready to compare myself with him."
