However, Forest leading the race to sign the out of contract striker on a free transfer.
Adams had suggested he was happy to stay at the Saints, but may have been given a higher wage offer.
Fabrizio Romano states that Forest are now leading the race and believe they will get a deal done.
Saints boss Russell Martin does want the club to do its best to retain the services of Adams.
