Borussia Dortmund do not have first option on a player who spent part of last season on loan at the club.
The German giants, who lost in the Champions League final to Real Madrid on Saturday, enjoyed the services of Ian Maatsen from Chelsea.

However, bringing the left-sided defender back to Dortmund will not be easy for the German outfit.
Per The Mirror, Maatsen's 35 million release clause is one that any club can trigger.
Chelsea's new head coach Enzo Maresca may also have to decide if he wants to retain or sell Maatsen.
The English club are pushing to sell homegrown talent this summer to boost their financial standing.
