The Argentinian international has been in impressive form for Atletico this season with 23 goals in 44 appearances this season under manager Diego Simeone after his move from Manchester City in August. This move saw him sign a six-year contract until 2030 which would mean the Reds would have to fork out a very large sum to bring him in this summer.
However, the Spanish side's sporting director Carlos Busero has denied the reports and stated that they are purely rumours that often crop up ahead of the opening of the window in which manager Arne Slot is said to be searching for a new striker.
“The talk about Liverpool submitting an official offer to sign our player Julian Alvarez is incorrect," said Busero to 365scores. "What is being circulated is just rumours.
"Alvarez is a key and important player in our project, and we have no intention of letting him go. The player himself is not paying attention to these rumours."
Speculation surrounding the long-term future of Darwin Nunez has been highly debated whilst there is known interest in Alexander Isak of Newcastle United and RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko who Slot may bid for as he looks to retain what seems to be a league title in the bag this campaign as they sit 12 points clear at the top of the table.
Alvarez's agent, Fernando Hidalgo admitted he could have stayed in England before his move to La Liga and that Liverpool were ready to make a deal last year.
"I can confirm that Liverpool were interested in Julián last season.
"The future? It's not the right time to talk about it. Julián is playing in major tournaments and is fully focused on that."
