Flick was named new coach last week.
Laporta told Mundo Deportivo: "We believed that the best thing for this team was a new coach, who believed in this group, convinced that with these players you can beat anyone.
"Knowing that we had an alternative like Hansi Flick, who knows much more than us, led us to end the search. He has given us a lot of confidence starting from the current squad. We have seen a coach with experience, with a sense of responsibility, and also with the type of game to play: pressure, ball possession.
"He is a serious, responsible, mature man. He's not a man who expresses much, but he seemed very excited. He gave us confidence by reassuring us that he will do very well.
"Flick will prepare the players very well physically, both those who play and those who don't play... We asked Flick to win and he told us that he can get a lot from the current team."
