"I've got no idea with the players we've been linked with," the Newcastle boss told reporters.
"Lee (Marshall) does run a few names by me and some I don't even know. I wouldn't read too much into that."
The Magpies do have financial backing from the government of Saudi Arabia, but will have a limited budget due to the Premier League's Profit and Sustainability Rules.
