"They've already said the manager's not been supported enough to be successful so far. Whether they see that this manager just needs a bit of support and help for him to go on and do a good job or whether they think that someone else needs to come in is a very difficult decision.
"They've got to take everything into consideration; the injury list, the way the team performed over a whole season, the chances they give into other teams defensively, the number of chances they're creating and scoring themselves. The playing needs to be sorted out, and there's a couple of people that you need to get off the wage bill and new players brought in," Sharpe continues.
Speaking of bringing in new players, talk has emerged that Manchester United are preparing a bid for Napoli ace Victor Osimhen, but why would he transfer to a side not playing in the Champions League next season when he has the whole world to choose from?
"Well, this is the question now if you're a top player. Whoever comes to Man United now has to buy into the project. They're not going to come in and expect to win the title next season. Bring younger players in that are hungry, that want to work and want to play for the club.
"It's got to be a three- or four-year project for these players. And if that pays off, it's a fantastic journey for anybody that gets involved. If you can come in now, finish in eighth, and over the next few seasons you climb the table and then in two or three seasons you're having a run at the league. I think it's a fantastic journey for players to be on."
