Holland's two biggest clubs passed on the chance to sign Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk, it has been revealed.

Kicker says both PSV Eindhoven and Ajax had the chance to sign Van Dijk when he was with FC Groningen, however they rejected the now Holland captain.

The feedback from scouts was Van Dijk was too laid back.

Instead, the Dutchman moved to Celtic before being sold onto Southampton.

Van Dijk is now the world's most expensive defender and captain of his nation.
