Capello: Scholes changed his mind over England comeback
Fabio Capello has claimed Paul Scholes agreed to play for England at the World Cup - and then changed his mind, reports the Daily Mirror.
The 35 year old was approached by Capello’s assistant Franco Baldini the night before the squad was named and agreed to come out of international retirement.
But the Manchester United veteran then changed his mind the following morning and Capello appears to have given up on Scholes for good.
Asked about the incident, Capello told ITV Sport: “It is up to him. Franco spoke with him and he decided. In the evening he said yes, and in the morning he said no.
“He said he is too old to play more games and more competitions. He prefers to be ok for Manchester United.”
