New Everton defender Sylvain Distin insists people need not concern themselves about his age. The 31 year old is expected to make his debut against Wigan at Goodison Park on Sunday after arriving from Portsmouth.
"When I completed the medical I found out that in seven years I have missed 14 games. Last season I played every single minute of every single match." he said.
"With age, you get experience - and with experience, you can take care of yourself a bit more. I feel as fit today as I was when I was 25. It's not about age - it is about keeping fit.
"The competition also keeps you on your toes. It makes you work hard and play every game. That is why I am here."
He said: "Everton is a club that tried to improve every year - that helped make my mind up. It was difficult for me to stay at Portsmouth after last season.
"There was a lot of frustration about what was going on, and I cannot stand frustration.
"Sometimes you have to think about yourself. At my age I, need to enjoy my football now - not in a few years."
Distin is ready to face Wigan and added: "I cannot remember an easy game in all my years in England.
"That's what people want to see. But English football is not all about the physical challenge. It has everything, with some amazing players who have great technical ability."
