York City striker McBreen signs with Nth Qld

Daniel McBreen has joined new A-League franchise North Queensland Fury. The England-born Australian striker has spent much of the past eight years playing in Europe, mainly with English conference club York City with stints in the Scottish Premier League with Falkirk and Division One with St Johnstone.

He also spent time in Romania with FC Universitatea Craiova.

Fury coach Ian Ferguson was happy to have lured McBreen to North Queensland.

"He played a few seasons at Falkirk and St Johnstone and really made a name for himself as a player who could score goals," Ferguson said.

"He gives us yet another attacking option - he's over six foot, so that provides a big, physical target for us up front on the set plays.

"Daniel brings the height that I was missing and he's an aggressive player who's been playing in some tough competitions and that's what I want in the team - a player who will give centre halves a hard time.

"One of the great things about Daniel is that he's an Australian boy who's played in the UK for a few seasons and he can bring that experience back to the A-League," Ferguson added.

"We're a lot closer to finishing up the roster but everyone knows they'll really have to fight for their spot."
