Xabi Alonso wanted Real Madrid president Florentino Perez to sign Santi Cazorla last summer, it has been revealed.
The former Malaga midfielder is now starring for Arsenal after completing a £16 million move last month.
El Confidencial says Perez called together his senior leadership group, including Xabi, Iker Casillas and Sergio Ramos at the beginning of preseason to discuss their transfer plans.
And Xabi recommended Cazorla to Perez, rating him a better prospect in adapting to their style of play than former Tottenham ace Luka Modric.
