World Cup qualifying: Portugal score away win over Bosnia-Herzegovina to grab WC spot

Portugal have won their second play-off leg against Bosnia-Herzegovina 1-0 (2-0 on aggregate) to book their place in the 2010 World Cup.

After the 1-0 win in Lisbon on the weekend, the Portuguese needed to improve their performance if they wanted to go through to the finals but it seemed that the pressure was on Bosnia early as they stuttered from the opening and could not find any flow.

Portugal looked well-organised and efficient but squandered some clear chances in Zenica's Olympic Stadium.

FC Porto's Raul Meireles scored the only goal of the match in the 55th minute, completing a brilliant move by the visitors which involved Tiago finding Nani and the Manchester United winger crossing to Meireles who finished emphatically past Bosnian keeper Kenan Hasagic.

The goal gave Portugal a two-goal buffer and in the end it was enough to send them through to the finals for the third-successive time.
