After being released from his contract with Dutch champions FC Twente, young Australian striker Nikita Rukavytsya is hoping he can perform well on the world stage in South Africa.
The 22-year old Ukraine-born forward will not return to Twente next season after spending a large chunk of it on loan with Belgian outfit KSV Roeselare but believes if he can step up at the World Cup, clubs may come knocking.
''Definitely [being part of the World Cup squad] gives me a chance to show what I can do. If I get a chance I will try I have to do well to catch the eye of other clubs, but I have to wait and see [what] happens,'' Rukavytsya said.
''I definitely want to stay in Europe and I have to wait and see what clubs are interested. There have been a few calls, but nothing concrete.''
