World Cup Group A Cameroon 1-4 Brazil Neymar 17, 34, Fred 49, Fernandinho 84 Matip 26 Brazil top Group A following a slightly flattering 4-1 success over Cameroon who caused plenty of problems but failed to cope with the talents of Neymar.
This was Brazil's 100th World Cup game and whilst they celebrated with a win playing some typical Samba football, there is still a question mark over their defence with Cameroon, particularly in the first half, causing all sorts of problems.
The Africans go home having lost all three of their group games but with some recovered pride after an opening two games beset with disciplinary problems. However, they have now lost their last six World Cup matches - the longest ever losing streak by an African country.
An exciting first period was full of attacking endeavour from both outfits helped by some inept defending from all concerned.
Fortunately for Brazil Neymar rose to the occasion scoring twice in the opening 45 minutes. First he opened his account to put Brazil ahead only for Matip to quickly level after the African side had just hit the crossbar.
But Neymar regained the lead for the host country with a brilliant individual effort but frailties at the back always meant Cameroon had a chance when they attacked.
The goal that deflated the Indomitable Lions arrived shortly after the break when Fred headed home a David Luiz cross even if television replays showed the Brazilian striker to be offside.
Cameroon never quite recaptured the flowing attacks of the first half and conceded a late fourth when giving away possession from a quick free kick. A lovely passing move sliced open the African's defence and substitute Fernandinho toe poked home.
Brazil will now meet South American rivals Chile in the last 16.
