WORLD CUP: Bosnia-Hercegovina win first World Cup game and prevent Iran progressing

World Cup Group F Bosnia-Hercegovina 3-1 Iran FT Dzeko 23, Pjanic 56, Vrsajevic 83 Ghoochannejad 82 Already eliminated Bosnia-Hercegovina won their maiden World Cup game 3-1 and in doing so prevented Iran form progressing to the last 16.

Iran needed to win but seemed to preoccupied with defending, probably feeling their performance in the narrow defeat to Argentine justified such tactics, but in the end extended their winless record to seven World Cup games.

Edin Dzeko gave the Bosnians a deserved lead which their attacking play had warranted with a shot from 25 yards. Masoud Shojaei almost levelled immediately but hit the woodwork.

Yet it was the Bosnians who continued to look the more positive and they doubled their advantage after the break from Miralem Pjanic only for the Iranians to give themsleves a glimmer of hope with 8 minutes remaining.

Reza Ghoochannejad gave them a lifeline but it barely lasted 60 seconds before Bosnia's two goal cushion was restored through Avdija Vrsajevic to give them their first win in a major tournament.
