Wolves boss Nuno says Liverpool rival Klopp wrong on subs

Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo admits he disagrees with Jurgen Klopp that five substitutes should be allowed in the Premier League.

Liverpool boss Klopp called on Premier League chiefs to reinstate the rule surrounding substitutes that allowed five changes after the restart, as opposed to three.

But ahead of Wolves ' clash with Liverpool on Sunday, Nuno has stated that he thinks the traditional rule is the correct one at this moment in time.

“I never changed my mind," said the Portuguese. “I still believe there is not enough evidence that the solution is about three or five substitutions.

“I think what is wrong is the schedule – that is wrong due to the pandemic everybody understands that. The problem is the schedule.

“It's not about the substitutions, there is not a study that tells you the substitutions are going to stop the injuries and (improve) the welfare of the players.

“I have been really careful analysing it, paying attention to games in the Championship, matches in the Champions League, I don't see substitutions being made because of the welfare of the players.

“I see subs being made dictated by how the game goes.

“I think it will be a mistake to solve the problem with a mistake that was made with the schedules.

“I said that in the meeting with the managers and I say it again, I think three subs is not the focus of the situation.

"I will keep believing that we should proceed with three substitutions until the end of the season."
