Wolves battling Blackburn over highly-rated Mimms

Wolves are battling to keep goalkeeper coach Bobby Mimms away from Blackburn Rovers.

The Express & Star says Ince has only just appointed a goalkeeping coach in former Villa man Eric Steele, who effectively swapped jobs with Kevin Hitchcock, who has joined Manchester City.

Steele is with the Blackburn squad in Portugal, for games against Benfica tonight and Sporting Lisbon tomorrow, but the approach for Mimms has been acknowledged by both clubs.

Blackburn boss Ince knows him well from their time at Molineux between 2002-06. Mimms' loss would be a huge blow to Wolves after his work in shaping the careers of Wayne Hennessey, Matt Murray and Carl Ikeme.

It is acknowledged he has assembled the greatest array of goalkeeping talent outside the Premier League.

Wolves chief Jez Moxey said: "Bobby is an important, valued member of our backroom team and, as such, we want to keep him."
