Wolves have made a significant bid of £38 million for Sporting midfielder Matheus Nunes.
The Guardian reports that the club are close to an agreement to secure Nunes before the transfer window closes.
The club are set to smash their transfer record for the 23-year-old.
Nunes is a highly rated attacking midfielder who impressed Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola in the Champions League recently.
Wolves have suffered a difficult start to the Premier League, losing to Leeds and drawing against Fulham.
They will be hoping that adding a player of Nunes' quality can kickstart their season.
