Winterburn exclusive: West Ham captain Rice fits the mould of an Arsenal player

Arsenal title winner Nigel Winterburn says West Ham captain Declan Rice fits the bill for the Gunners.

Rice is interesting Arsenal ahead of the summer market as manager Mikel Arteta and technical director Edu seek a new central midfield addition for the next season.

Further fueling the speculation was Rice having Gunners captain Martin Odegaard sign an Arsenal home shirt he brought specifically to London stadium after their 2-2 draw earlier this month.

Reacting to Rice's actions, Winterburn told Tribalfootball.com: "It's always a possibility, it just depends on a lot of factors, but I do feel like Arsenal will be going for another midfield player.

"I've spoken about Arsenal's signings under Mikel Arteta a lot in the past and the direction the club seems to be going in and certainly Declan Rice fits that bill.

"But is he going to leave West Ham?

"There's going to be a lot of teams interested as we've already seen in the media and the transfer fee is going to be a big obstacle for teams whatever West Ham may value him at.

"Arsenal will have a set limit on what a player is worth, and they won't want to go above that."

For Winterburn, Rice looks 'an Arsenal player' and would be the type of addition to maintain the team's momentum under Arteta.

On behalf of Buzz Casino, he also told Tribalfootball.com: "It'll be interesting to see how that situation develops, but I think it's fair to say that he fits the mould that Arsenal would want.

"Arsenal tried to make deals happen in January which ultimately didn't get done, but the club will have two or three options that they will hope to secure at least one of those in the summer."
