Wijnaldum: Liverpool has to explain the facts why I am gone

Gini Wijnaldum says Liverpool need to explain why he's being allowed to come off contract.

He has been quoted by ESPN suggesting he will soon explain why he left the club, as he also suggested the club will need to clarify their position.

"Why I left, you will hear again. It will come out. The club also has to explain the facts why I am gone," he stated.

"I am still busy saying goodbye to Liverpool. I am still emotional because I got a goodbye that not many players got before me."

He went on to confirm he and his agent have been in contact with Barcelona, but the confusion over the future of their head coach Ronald Koeman may be a factor in what happens next.

Koeman has been chasing Wijnaldum for the past year and tried to sign him last summer, with the club yet to confirm whether the Dutchman will remain in charge.

"What is happening now between Barcelona and Koeman, I read in the media," added Wijnaldum, who is set to captain Holland at this summer's Euro 2020 finals in the absence of his former Liverpool team-mate Virgil van Dijk.

"It's hard to judge, I'm not in those conversations, but I think it's a shame that it comes out like this and has to go like this.

"I would rather see trainers and clubs solve it differently. Not specifically in this case, but in general. But apparently that is difficult."
