James McArthur has touched on just how important it is for Scotland to qualify for a World Cup in the next little while.
The Scots have not progressed to the finals of football's pinnacle since 1998 and will have to wait until at least 2018 after missing out on Brazil 2014.
Wigan Athletic midfielder McArthur was 11 when Scotland last made it and believes it is vital for the state of the game in his homeland that the Tartan Army again witness the highs of competing at a World Cup or even a European Championship.
"Hopefully we can do what we have not done for a right few years and get to a finals because the last one I can remember was when I was growing up as a kid," he told the Daily Record.
"I was 11 and in primary seven and we actually went to watch the full Brazil game at the cinema at Parkhead.
"I remember at the time how excited everyone was, how it captured the imagination of everyone in Scotland so it would be good to give the fans all of that again.
"We've had players over the past 10 years who have not experienced the feeling and that's a big thing for us as footballers.
"You want to go to World Cup finals, you want to get to the European Championship and we're all striving to go in the same direction and get there."
