Wigan Athletic midfielder James McArthur wants to be part of a Scotland side that creates new memories for today's fans.
McArthur was in primary school when Scotland last qualified for a major tournament in 1998 and remembers watching John Collins score from the penalty spot in the 2-1 loss to Brazil at the France World Cup.
Whilst McArthur admits it is great to recall seeing the Scottish side competing in such competitions, he is keen to be a part of that himself and create fresh recollections following a lean trot for Scottish football.
"It's hard to believe it has been so long," he told MailSport.
"But it's not as if anyone in our country is allowed to forget it has been 15 years since qualification.
"Soon it will be an entire generation who have missed seeing Scotland play on the big international stage.
"I was at primary and the whole school sat and watched us play Brazil. I'll never forget John Collins scoring with a penalty.
"It's a great memory but we need to move on and create new ones...ones that younger people can relate to.
"Being in Brazil next summer is looking increasingly unlikely and that is such a pity.
"I hope we will be at the next major finals in France (for Euro2016). Everyone in Scotland must be fed-up having to adopt a nation when it comes to the finals of a major tournament.
"It would be nice to get out the kilts and tartan scarves and follow Scotland."
