Wigan return to negotiating table for Klasnic

Wigan Athletic boss Steve Bruce has returned to talks for Werder Bremen striker Ivan Klasnic.

The Daily Mail says Wigan are close to finalising a deal for Croatia striker Klasnic on a free transfer - if he can pass his medical.

Klasnic, 28, underwent a double kidney transplant last year yet bounced back to play for his club Werder Bremen and finished the season with two goals for Croatia in Euro 2008.

Spanish clubs Real Mallorca and Osasuna have also shown strong interest, but his agent Alejandro Camano says the player wants to join Wigan.

Klasnic's desire was increased after he held talks in Switzerland with Wigan general manager John Benson and chief executive Brenda Spencer.

Klasnic, who was born in Germany, rejected a new contract at Bremen and Camano said: "Ivan will definitely not join any of the Spanish clubs. He will instead move to England, to sign for Wigan."
