Wigan Athletic boss Steve Bruce is desperate to get Emile Heskey fit and firing.

Wigan are struggling for goals as they tackle doomed visitors Derby on Saturday - Antoine Sibierski is the only striker to score since Christmas, with £4m window signing Marlon King yet to get off the mark.

Bruce, who also has Marcus Bent, said: "We have better players up front than some teams around us.

"We've got to make that count, but I can only play two. I made a mistake trying three at Middlesbrough. Most people would pick Heskey - it's my job to make sure I choose the right player to partner him."
