Despite their FA Cup draw with Bournemouth, Wigan Athletic boss Roberto Martinez drew a couple of positives.
Twenty-year-old Roman Golobart had an effective debut in central defence following loan spells at Inverness and Tranmere, while Angelo Henriquez looked lively on his first appearance after signing from Manchester United for the rest of the season, hitting the bar with one near-post header.
"I was very pleased with Roman Golobart," said Martinez. "And it was perfect platform for Angelo Henriquez to make his debut.
"We have spent a lot of money to build a facility that will develop young players. Now we need to be brave enough to give them opportunities."
