Wigan boss Martinez admits Diame lucky avoiding serious injury

Wigan Athletic boss Roberto Martinez says Mohamed Diame avoided serious injury in his clash with Fulham's Steve Sidwell on the weekend.

Martinez is breathing a sigh of relief after discovering Diame only suffered minor ankle ligament damage at the DW Stadium.

"We have been very lucky," the Latics chief said.

"It was a horrific challenge. We have seen it a few times. At the moment of contact his leg is off the ground.

"If it had been on the ground, it would have been a break. Thankfully, he has only damaged his ligaments."
