Whittingham extends with Cardiff

Peter Whittingham has signed a new contract with Cardiff City.

The 29-year old midfielder has penned a three-year extension which will see him remain with the Welsh club until at least June 2017.

Whittingham, who has been with the Bluebirds since joining from Aston Villa in 2007, was delighted to commit himself to the Cardiff cause despite the club's relegation from the Premier League last season.

"I spoke to the manager at the end of last season and he was keen to keep me here; as most people know, that was always what I wanted to do," Whittingham told the club's official website.

"I've loved my time at the club and hopefully this means that that time will continue for a few years yet.

"There have been highs and lows over the past eight years, of course. But in the main we've enjoyed good times and I've enjoyed myself here; last season was special is as much as we reached the Premier League - it's what I always said I wanted to achieve with Cardiff City.

"I think that those of us who played in the Premier League last year will be better for it this season. We all know how good a division it is and that we are capable at that level. It's looking promising for a quick return, taking into account the players we have, so we're looking forward to getting going."

Since arriving in Cardiff, the former England U21 international has made 338 appearances whilst scoring 77 goals in all competitions.
