Stoke City midfielder Glenn Whelan is determined to stay and fight for his place.

Geoff Cameron has stepped into Whelan's spot in recent games.

The Republic of Ireland international said: "There's massive competition in central midfield and that's great. That's what we always want.

"If you're not pushing yourself and think you'll play every week you can get a bit stale but with the competition we have everyone is being pushed, not just myself."
