West Ham United winger Michail Antonio has revealed that he expected to sign for West Bromwich Albion before the London club secured his signature in the summer.
The Hammers signed the 25-year-old from Championship club Nottingham Forest for a transfer fee believed to be around £7 million on September 1 last year but he was not aware that Slaven Bilic's side were even considering him.
Speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live, Antonio said: "I thought I might be signing for West Brom, there was loads of links, but nothing with West Ham.
"I didn't really hear anything until I basically signed the contract, it came out of the blue.
"They (West Brom) put a bid in and I thought I would end up in Birmingham, but now I'm in London, back home."
Antonio has scored four goals in 18 appearances since arriving at Upton Park from Forest.
