WEST HAM v MAN CITY RECAP: Valencia and Aguero at the double as Hammers and City share spoils

Manchester City twice came from behind to secure a 2-2 draw with West Ham United at Upton Park on Saturday.

The home side stunned the visitors when Enner Valencia put the Hammers ahead after just 53 seconds of play.

City responded when Sergio Aguero was brought down in the penalty area, before shaking himself off to convert the spot kick and level the scores at 1-1 after nine minutes.

Valencia found the back of the net for a second time 11 minutes after the half-time interval, pouncing on some lacklustre defending from Nicolas Otamendi to put West Ham back in front.

However, Aguero scored from close range nine minutes before full-time to ensure the visitors left the Boleyn Ground with point.

TALKING POINTS

City continue to struggle on the road this campaign, with just four away wins to their name all season. The Citizens will need to find a way to pick up points away from the Etihad Stadium if they hope to keep pace with Premier League frontrunners Arsenal and Leicester City.

West Ham currently sit in sixth spot on the Premier League ladder, six points behind fourth-placed Tottenham. The Hammers are well placed as they challenge for a spot in Europe next season and will even be optimistic of a top-four finish should they continue their current form.

WHAT'S NEXT?

West Ham take on Liverpool in the fourth round of the FA Cup on Saturday, while Manchester City face Everton in the semi-final of the League Cup on Wednesday.

QUOTES CORNER

West Ham manager Slaven Bilic was proud of his side's display:

"It was a great game of football. I'm so proud of our team and Man City. There was everything in it. Four goals, chances, yellow cards and a penalty.

"We were a little bit disappointed, but I said to the players they shouldn't be. But if you are disappointed after playing Man City then that's good."

Man City manager Manuel Pellegrini was disappointed with the result:

"It [a draw] was not what we wanted before the game. If you analyse the whole game we had two or three clear chances. It was a difficult game - I was not happy the way we conceded the second goal."
