West Ham taking no risks with star man Payet

West Ham United opted to leave Dimitri Payet at home for their Europa League play-off first leg against Astra Giurgiu.

The Hammers meet the Romanian side on Thursday night but will be without star man Payet who reportedly picked up a knock in Monday night's Premier League season opener against Chelsea.

Payet only returned to full training with the East London club 10 days ago after making it through to the final of Euro2016 with France and was used as a second-half sub by Slaven Bilic at Stamford Bridge in their 2-1 defeat to the Blues.

During his 23-minute cameo, Payet sustained a slight knock which has been enough to keep him away from the trip to Romania and instead will be kept fresh for Sunday's league meeting with AFC Bournemouth, according to the West Ham Way.

West Ham have lost club-record signing Andre Ayew for up to four months with a thigh injury and are in no mood to take any risks with Payet.
