West Ham had deal sheet submitted but Zapata transfer fell through

West Ham failed to get a deal for Atalanta striker Duvan Zapata over the line last night.

Sky Sports says the Hammers were in the market for a forward to compete with Michael Antonio for a starting berth but were unable to secure their top target on an infuriating last day of the January transfer window.

Zapata, 30, has registered 12 goals in all competitions for Atalanta this campaign and West Ham looked to have struck a deal in the final hours of Transfer Deadline Day.

As the clock hit 11pm, a deal sheet was submitted to the Premier League, giving the Hammers an extra two hours for Zapata's loan move to be finalised.

Though an agreement could not be reached for a six-month stint at the London Stadium, meaning West Ham went the entirety of the window without securing any additions.
