West Ham United fullback Aaron Cresswell admits being cut by Liverpool as a junior was 'devastating'.
However, the Scouser says a final piece of advice before being cut was the making of his career.
Cresswell told the Daily Mail: "I was devastated when they let me go. I was in the same group as Martin Kelly, who is now at Crystal Palace, and playing for Liverpool was the best thing I had done. To be told at 14 you are being released is heartbreaking. The coaches told my dad and he was devastated too.
"But it was Liverpool that moved me to left back. Robbie Johnson, one of the coaches, said one day for me to try left back. It was just before I was released. I went to Tranmere and stayed in that position."
