West Ham chief Sullivan confident seeing off Spurs for London Olympic stadium bid

West Ham United co-owner David Sullivan remains confident of winning the bid to be relocated to London's Olympic stadium.

Despite all the other problems, West Ham's efforts to get the Olympic stadium move on apace.

"Our bid is in and the legacy committee will look at it and others," Sullivan told the London Evening Standard. "If we lost out to Tottenham it would be beyond belief because Stratford is in our borough.

"The thought of a north London club coming to play in east London - I can't get my head around it. I know fans have worries about the athletics track but down the side of the pitch it's no real difference to the Emirates and we would cover the track with synthetic grass. Behind the goals the gap is wider but it's not as bad as it looks.

"Your best 35,000 seats are down the side and they will be no different to half the grounds in the country.

"I am confident we would average 50,000 because clubs always pick up support when they move. The communication links would also really help the attendances.

"If it doesn't happen then we could build another east stand and increase the capacity by 10,000 but that is expensive for what you achieve.

"The other alternative is to build a new ground somewhere else, after we have sorted out the finances.

"The first thing, though, is to stay in the Premier League which is why I'm lying awake at nights."
