West Ham boss Allardyce: I need another Djorkaeff

West Ham United boss Sam Allardyce admits he'd love to find another Youri Djorkaeff-type signing next month.

Allardyce wrote in the London Evening Standard: "My biggest success in January signings has to be Youri Djorkaeff. He was at Kaiserslautern but not playing regularly so Bolton did a deal to sign him initially for the rest of the 2002 season.

"I met him and his entourage in Germany and asked him: 'Why do you want to come to a club like Bolton who are struggling near the bottom of the Premier League?'

"He replied: 'You're the only club who have given me the opportunity to come and play in your first team so I will sign for you because it is the only way I will get back in the French squad for the World Cup.'

"I said: 'That will do for me but the finances need to be sorted out.'

"He replied: 'I will leave you with my people. If it can be agreed, I will be straight on a plane to sign.' And that was it.

"He came over and from day one was an outstanding success, even though he hadn't played for much of that season."
