West Bromwich Albion fullback Billy Jones has hit out at fans jeering skipper Chris Brunt.

Brunt was sarcastically applauded by home fans while being replaced by George Thorne in West Brom's surprise 2-1 home defeat to Fulham on New Year's Day.

And baffled full-back Jones said: "I don't understand why they did that.

"Brunty misplaced some passes against Fulham - the same as a lot of us - but the effort was still there. He was challenging and working hard.

"Brunty's a great West Brom player. He has been in the past and is now."
